A real anthropic challenge - Organic Farming in rural Spain (Volunteer placements now open for 2026)
Welcome to a special place. Somewhere I have spent a lot of time and journeyed with since 2023, when I first stepped foot on a place I am honoured to talk about today.
The 2.7 hectare plot nearby the Catalonian mountain range, was rescued by a British Expat, who took the investment on in 2020, and used only Youtube videos to source his pre-existing love for micro-biology in application. This site in Spain, was sadly used as a dump site for some people in the local town, prior to his arrival, evidenced by video and picture diaries kept at the time.
As I prepare more content on behalf of the project, I write this post to open an invitation to accompany me to (or meet me in) Spain to meet the owner and his wife and explore the potential to make your own connections there, not only to travel to briefly but to embrace as solid connections abroad. The owner is a good man with an ambitious and sincere passion to share organic living solutions with others and needs people to help him and his wife and one other current full-time stayer and custodian of the animals.
The owner is looking for 1-3 people for the 2026 seasons, who have a completely open mind in-terms of utilising, cultivating and growing plants and more importantly, earth itself (organic soil composting). As a fellow volunteer, I am confident you will gain exposure to rapid learning and perspectives across many aspects of organic living and farming and contribute on the spade, first and foremost. This particular project is independent of rural farming and is not a ‘backpacker option’ or typical work away job. It will test and grow you, this I can attest to and I am personally, hugely grateful for it. We also have plenty of Ecstatic Dance Parties and Yoga type healing based gatherings to indulge in with the wider tribe that gather on the full moon.
Learn how the owner took a completely derelict run of pig huts and a forest full of trash (including asbestos) and returned all kinds of unique natural organisms and life back to it, developing intricate systems of growing independence that we are in the process of documenting and working through in real time. Join us. It is not easy helping the independent domestic farming dream in Europe and it represents a passion of liberty for many now.
At the date of this post, and in accordance with local planning authorities there, the most suitable applicant for the coming spring 2026 placement, will need to be prepared to share a caravan with another volunteer, or have your own private caravan or bring your own as may be appropriate in future visits to look after the animals that stay there permanently (mainly less than a dozen sheep and chickens). More availability to stay in allocated rooms is expected to become available from 2027 for volunteers that stay on with the farm long-term.
In accordance with the owners expressed wishes and my own desire to share this farming abroad experience with new people, the official volunteer position invitation and requirements are as follows:

Join Our Holistic Farm be in nature 45 minutes from Barcelona
We are seeking highly motivated and health-conscious individuals ( couple welcome ) to join our farm. You will be surrounded by nature in an environment that prioritizes well-being and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with daily farm operations, including organic farming practices and animal care chickens/ sheep
Contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy living environment
Contribute, fairly and constructively to all home economic aspects of farm life, like; harvest and shopping planning, meal preparation, resource utility and food preservation
Requirements:
Some or little previous experience in farming, or gardening or permaculture or a related field of nutrition or wellness preferably not essential (mind set / attitude is important)
Strong commitment to healthy living and sustainability
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and work on YOUR OWN
Ability to leave what you know behind and challenge your opinions and pre-existing assumptions
4 hours a day, 5 days a week, flexibility on days, not hours
